The Peak is a sustainable luxury resort in Udaipur, where we collaborated with architect Studio Symbiosis to improve outdoor thermal conditions. Passive strategies such as ponds, flora and fauna, and mist cooling were utilized to enhance comfort. Additionally, the overall cooling load of the resort was optimized to reduce both capital and operational costs.

Natural wind passes through the mist and water bodies, reducing the temperature before directing the airflow toward the villas. The jaalis serve a multifunctional role as wind catchers, further cooling the air.

The angle and porosity of the pergola are designed to enhance the flow of the wind scoop and retain wind pressure. This controlled airflow is then directed inside through the window and door openings.

Outdoor thermal comfort is influenced by air temperature, humidity ratio, wind speed, and mean radiant temperature. Passive strategies such as shading, hot wind protection, sky cooling, and evapotranspiration were integrated along with mist cooling to enhance comfort levels.

To address extreme outdoor temperatures, a gradual transition was designed for guests. By implementing passive strategies, the outside temperature of 40°C is reduced to between 32°C and 36°C, depending on the specific space and strategy used.
